Last September, Daniel Schuster had the extraordinary opportunity to represent CLC Comunicaci\u00f3n, an affiliate of LLYC, at the Government Relations and Public Policy Conference organized by The Public Affairs Council, a world leader in public affairs training and professionalization. In the heart of Washington D.C., this event brought together experts with a common goal: to redefine and enhance the relationship strategies of private companies with governments and the formation of public policy. I would like to share some reflections and lessons learned that, without a doubt, have a relevant impact for companies, particularly Central American corporations.<\/p>\n
1. Establish effective bridges with legislators: In Washington, it is evident that congressmen and officials face highly complex decisions that affect not only Americans, but the world. Companies have a responsibility to get their message to them clearly and directly, using all the digital tools at their disposal.<\/p>\n
Innovate with technology: It became clear that technology, particularly artificial intelligence, is redefining the way public affairs are managed. It is not only about streamlining processes, but also about anticipating trends and better understanding our stakeholders. Using the tools available to analyze more data in a world of information overload is vital.<\/p>\n
3. Define and consolidate our "policy brand": Just like in front of their consumers, companies must build a solid image in the political arena. It is not just a matter of having a clear position on certain issues, but of being coherent and consistent in messages and actions, understanding what value can be added to decision makers.<\/p>\n
4. Never underestimate the power of the human factor: Beyond strategies and tools, human relationships remain the core of any effective management. Mutual respect, trust and empathy are vital to building strong bridges with those who make decisions that affect our industry.<\/p>\n
The lessons that Washington D.C. has taught are not only for CLC Comunicaci\u00f3n, but for all companies in Central America seeking to strengthen their public affairs strategies. We are now faced with the challenge of adapting these lessons to our local realities and working together to build a more conducive and equitable business environment.<\/p>\n
