Challenge.
For years, ALDI has implemented initiatives to reduce food waste, such as direct food donations to Spanish non-profits, discounts on near-expiration items, and logistical improvements. ALDI was ready to commit further by encouraging consumers to adopt more responsible and eco-friendly consumption habits. The challenge was inspiring and engaging consumers to make conscious daily decisions, reduce food waste, and promote sustainability.
Impact.
We launched ‘Tasty Leftovers’ on September 29 to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. This innovative, free digital tool allows consumers to combine ingredients into various recipes in under a minute, maximizing food use.
The project reaffirmed ALDI’s commitment to sustainability and food utilization, attracting significant attention from users and the media. To further promote the tool, we deployed a second strategic phase during the holiday season, a crucial time to reduce waste.
Solution.
‘Tasty Leftovers’ is an innovative Generative AI platform that promotes food utilization by creating recipes based on user input of ingredients. A pioneer in the retail sector, it uses AIgent, an autonomous conversational agent specialized in gastronomy and recipe creation.
